While the concerns involved may differ from organization to organization, the principles of good information technology management remain the same. Using a compilation of articles on various topics relating to technology management, Handbook of Technology Management in Public Administration addresses the management, implementation, and integration of technology across a wide variety of disciplines. The book highlights lessons learned to assist you in solving contemporary problems and avoiding pitfalls. It discusses the creation of innovative paradigms, new boundaries, diversity frameworks, and operational breakthroughs emanating from technology. It also raises questions about the productivity, violence, and intrusions of technology into the personal, organizational, and social environments as we move forward. This book identifies the potential ethical, legal, and social implications of technology from electronic signatures to genetic screenings to privacy interventions to industrial applications. It raises issues, problems, and concerns arising from technology and its effects on nurturing or nullifying the foundations of life and liberty in a constitutional democracy. With the development of new tools and techniques, technology promises to make organizations more productive and efficient. Handbook of Technology Management in Public Administration identifies effective technology management approaches while balancing the repercussions of technological growth.

This book was released on 2015-12-09 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After more than six years of ultra-low interest rates, a Fed liftoff (rate hike) is just a matter of time. This paper goes back to history to understand the spillover effect – or what is termed in the paper as the ‘liftoff’ effect – of the previous five Fed liftoffs on capital flows. Using a dynamic panel framework covering 48 countries (27 advanced economies, 21 emerging markets) over the period 1982-2006, the paper shows that the liftoff effect on capital flows (total private, portfolio) is significantly higher for emerging market economies (EM) than advanced market economies (AM). EM capital flows are hit indiscriminately one quarter before liftoff, suggesting that markets usually price in the liftoff before the actual event. Over time, there is a bit more variation among EM as policy responses/framework can to some extent dampen market reactions. The findings are similar to the unfolding of events during the taper tantrum episode indicating that, even though current circumstances are very different, history could still provide a good guidance.

Book excerpt: In 2019, China astonished the world by landing a spacecraft and rover on the far side of the Moon, something never achieved by any country before. China had already become the world’s leading spacefaring nation by rockets launched, sending more into orbit than any other. China is now a great space superpower alongside the United States and Russia, sending men and women into orbit, building a space laboratory (Tiangong) and sending probes to the Moon and asteroids. Roadmap 2050 promises that China will set up bases on the Moon and Mars and lead the world in science and technology by mid-century. China’s space programme is one of the least well-known, but this book will bring the reader up to date with its mysteries, achievements and exciting plans. China has built a fleet of new, powerful Long March rockets, four launch bases, tracking stations at home and abroad, with gleaming new design and production facilities. China is poised to build a large, permanent space station, bring back lunar rocks, assemble constellations of communications satellites and send spaceships to Mars, the moons of Jupiter and beyond. A self-sustaining lunar base, Yuegong, has already been simulated. In space, China is the country to watch.

Book excerpt: Space science in China is one of the most active areas in modern science, and China has played a dynamic and steadily increasing role in this field since the 1960s. Until recently, however, activity in China was a mystery to the rest of the world. With the commercial importance of space, and the fact that space is now used as a laboratory to carry out various experiments, China has recently emerged as an important international competitor. Space Science in China provides a clear understanding of the latest research and progress in such wide-ranging areas as the development and research in solar-terrestrial science, space astronomy, geoscience, remote sensing, microgravity science, and life science.
