Book excerpt: Is this the end of us? I found a woman I can’t live without. We’ve been through so much. We’ve had our set backs. But our love is stronger than ever. We are survivors. But when they take her from me at the altar, right before she is to become my wife, everything breaks. I will do anything to free her. I will do anything to make her mine for good. But is that enough? And what if it's not? Praise for Charlotte Byrd “This series thrilled me from the first page and had me completely engrossed. The pacing and plot was excellent. It had the perfect amount of twists and turns, luring me into the fantasy of this amazing book. The story was well-crafted, starting off with characters I fell in love with. I instantaneously bonded with the heroine and of course Mr. Black. YUM. It's sexy, it's sassy, it's steamy. It's everything. I loved every second of it and was so thrilled to have had such a treat.” - Khardine Gray, bestselling romance author "Her words make me ache and yearn for more." - Dancer in the Dark "The story is dark and enticing, taking me deeper into a world from which I never want to emerge." - Lover of Alpha "Addictive and damaged, their love burns slowly but deeply." - Heroes and Alphas “Their chemistry sizzles right from the beginning. He's the gorgeous and dangerous stranger we all need in our life." - Making Words Up "Her words made me fall in love. It slayed me!" - Sizzling Books "Left my head spinning! I never wanted it to end!" - Heartbreakers and Heroes

Book excerpt: The Queer Limit of Black Memory: Black Lesbian Literature and Irresolution identifies a new archive of Black women's literature that has heretofore been on the margins of literary scholarship and African diaspora cultural criticism. It argues that Black lesbian texts celebrate both the strategies of resistance used by queer Black subjects and the spaces for grieving the loss of queer Black subjects that dominant histories of the African diasporas often forget. Matt Richardson has gathered an understudied archive of texts by LaShonda Barnett, S. Diane Adamz-Bogus, Dionne Brand, Sharon Bridgforth, Laurinda D. Brown, Jewelle Gomez, Jackie Kay, and Cherry Muhanji in order to relocate the queerness of Black diasporic vernacular traditions, including drag or gender performance, blues, jazz, and West African spiritual and religious practices. Richardson argues that the vernacular includes queer epistemologies, or methods for accessing and exploring the realities of Black queer experience that other alternative archives and spaces of commemoration do not explore. The Queer Limit of Black Memory brings together several theorists whose work is vital within Black studies--Fred Moten, Saidiya Hartman, Hortense Spillers, Frantz Fanon, and Orlando Patterson--in service of queer readings of Black subjectivity.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the open challenges in fundamental physics is to combine Einstein's theory of general relativity with the principles of quantum mechancis. In this thesis, the question is raised whether metric quantum gravity could be fundamental in the spirit of Steven Weinberg's seminal asymptotic safety conjecture, and if so, what are the consequences for the physics of small, possibly Planck-size black holes? To address the first question, new techniques are provided which allow, for the first time, a self-consistent study of high-order polynomial actions including up to 34 powers in the Ricci scalar. These novel insights are then exploited to explain quantum gravity effects in black holes, including their horizon and causal structure, conformal scaling, evaporation, and the thermodynamics of quantum space-time. Results indicate upper limits on black hole temperature, and the existence of small black holes based on asymptotic safety for gravity and thermodynamical arguments.

The original photographs found in the book come from a variety of professional sources, and all correction exercises are on the included CD. Professional Photoshop has changed radically from edition to edition, and this time is no exception—with almost 90 percent new content and completely overhauled coverage of curves, channel blending, and sharpening.Professional Photoshop offers a full explanation of: How curves bring out detail in the most important areas of the imagen A comprehensive strategy for blending channels to create deeper, stronger images The strengths and weaknesses of CMYK, LAB, and RGB, and when to use each one The first detailed look at the Shadow/Highlight command—and even more sophis-ticated ways to enhance contrast in the lightest and darkest parts of the imagen Sharpening strategies, in three full chapters, including the innovative hiraloam method (High Radius, Low Amount). Plus, a fiendishly effective method of merging hiraloam and conventional unsharp masking The realities—and the politics—of preparing files for commercial offset printing and how to deal with colors that are out of the press’s gamut What Camera Raw and similar acquisition modules can offer Typical problems of digital captures that were not found in the age of film— and how to correct for them

Book excerpt: # Why are there many churches, yet major problems in Black communities?# Why are Blacks amongst the most Jesus-Praising people in the world, yet the most fragmented and economically dependent?# Is there a correlation between high praising and low productivity?Holy Lockdown addresses the paradox that exists within the Black community. One that reflects the abundance of Black churches coupled with the abundance of Black problems. There are approximately 85,000 predominately Black churches in this country, meaning, we could have 1,700 Black churches in every state!Holy Lockdown takes a critical and long overdue look at the psychological impact the church and sermonic rhetoric has made on the Black collective, and it explores the possibility of the church as being a contributing factor to many social problems facing Blacks.
