Book excerpt: Bought or brought? Revisit the nostalgia of the school cafeteria with this collection of interviews, vivid portraits, and elaborately reimagined food photos. Food often unites us in unexpected ways -- especially on Taco Salad Day. Drawing on material from more than seventy voices , these stories capture all walks of life -- from celebrities and chefs to a circus family, new immigrants, a creative dad whose illustrated lunch bags went viral, plenty of unlikely cultural mashups, and one genuine cafeteria lady. Their experiences are compelling, familiar, and foreign at the same time, forming a cultural time capsule. School Lunch celebrates our diversity and our shared experience. In their words: "School lunch is one of the core reasons I became a chef." -- Marcus Sammuelson "My mom, God rest her soul, was not exactly Mom-of-the-Year on this kind of stuff. She worked full-time, that woman was not about to peel and slice fruit for me." -- Natalie Webster "I ate the same damn thing every day for six years." -- Micaela Walker "On the days when I didn't have enough food there was always a reason to start or finish a fight." -- George Foreman "We were definitely a crusts-on family." -- Daphne Oz "I used to hate that feeling of walking into the lunchroom for the first time and not knowing where to sit." -- Chinae Alexander "Every kid had some good item to trade and I had f****** applesauce." -- Sam Kass

Book excerpt: In Paris for a weekend visit, Elizabeth Bard sat down to lunch with a handsome Frenchman--and never went home again. Was it love at first sight? Or was it the way her knife slid effortlessly through her pavé au poivre, the steak's pink juices puddling into the buttery pepper sauce? Lunch in Paris is a memoir about a young American woman caught up in two passionate love affairs--one with her new beau, Gwendal, the other with French cuisine. Packing her bags for a new life in the world's most romantic city, Elizabeth is plunged into a world of bustling open-air markets, hipster bistros, and size 2 femmes fatales. She learns to gut her first fish (with a little help from Jane Austen), soothe pangs of homesickness (with the rise of a chocolate soufflé), and develops a crush on her local butcher (who bears a striking resemblance to Matt Dillon). Elizabeth finds that the deeper she immerses herself in the world of French cuisine, the more Paris itself begins to translate. French culture, she discovers, is not unlike a well-ripened cheese--there may be a crusty exterior, until you cut through to the melting, piquant heart. Peppered with mouth-watering recipes for summer ratatouille, swordfish tartare and molten chocolate cakes, Lunch in Paris is a story of falling in love, redefining success and discovering what it truly means to be at home. In the delicious tradition of memoirs like A Year in Provence and Under the Tuscan Sun, this book is the perfect treat for anyone who has dreamed that lunch in Paris could change their life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Will Walker has written a collection of poems so intelligent and clear that reading them I wake up¿and find myself alive in the world. This is what art can do¿and every time it happens it¿s a miracle. Here is a miraculous book¿awake to what the Buddhists call the ¿full catastrophe¿ of living right now. If you want to feel yourself alive and in great company, buy this book and read it, and then pass it on.¿Marie Howe, author of The Kingdom of Ordinary TimeThere is a calm meditative grace to the poems in Will Walker¿s Wednesday After Lunch. His is a narrative ¿in the American grain,¿ to use William Carlos Williams¿ phrase. While some are quiet lyric poems of love of landscape and streetscape and quite human dogs, and some of a sweet domestic love, even asleep, a man and his wife ¿on your own side/of the bed/ split neatly into neighboring countries,¿ Walker¿s work has that very American room for Khrushchev at the UN pounding his shoe, and rhinestones, and Monopoly, and Jack Ruby, and Marilyn Monroe. In a tour de force of a poem, he writes of a dream of a bonfire, a barbecue on the flats in Provincetown, everyone from his Edenic past reunited, and ¿even the ocean loves to gather by fire.¿ These are poems to warm yourself by.¿Gail Mazur, author of Zeppo¿s First WifeIWf you want a batch of poems that are consistently good, if you consistently enjoy the poems of, say, Billy Collins or William Stafford or Sharon Olds, and if you were inclined to take any one of them with you to a desert island, mountain retreat, or simply to your own home, you may find yourself content in the company of Will Walker¿s poems. All things being relative in poetry, these poems tend toward the precise and the astounding; these are most often ¿stories¿ told with attention to where any parts of the story are likely to lead the reader, digression to detour and closer inspection to wider perspective: like the diagram of the city containing the aroma and curiosity of time before you¿past, future, present! The subjects journey, Italo Calvino-like, from what summons to what will not go away. In the space of these poems, there¿s a lot that won¿t go away and only some things, ephemeral by day, that are preserved as in a ghost-town you are happy to re-visit because when you do you, like the poet, will become closer to your nature.¿Peter Money, editor and publisher of Harbor Mountain PressWill Walker¿s poems are vivid, poignant, often funny, and always big-hearted. He writes with a keen eye, a generous heart, and an expansive spirit, both embracing the everyday and transcending it. His poems always make me see with new eyes. They are love poems to the world.¿Thea Sullivan, poet and teacher of The Intuitive Voice

Scott Fitzgerald (フィッツジェラルド) collection compiles the works on which the fame of one of the most fascinating writers of the twentieth century was built. Francis Scott Fitzgerald became a mouthpiece for ideas and expressed the spiritual moods bubbling amongst the young people during the 1920s. Fitzgerald, in the words of Amory from This Side of Paradise (1920), wrote that a generation had “grown up to find all God’s dead, all wars fought, all faiths in man shaken”. Fitzgerald was the first to tell the world about the commencement of the “jazz age” with its carnival approach towards life- a lifestyle which he also followed. However, as a sensitive artist, he could not help but notice the dualistic nature of this philosophy. Fitzgerald's writing demonstrated that a life spent at the carnival would inevitably lead to bankruptcy. Fitzgerald often worked on multiple short stories simultaneously while writing his novels. Later, these stories were compiled. His relationship and love for his wife Zelda fueled much of his writing. Her diagnosis and hospitalization for schizophrenia in 1930 affected him greatly. In his later years, Fitzgerald worked in Hollywood on movie scripts. His last novel, The Last Tycoon, remained unfinished at the time of his death in 1940 and reflected his Hollywood experiences. THE NOVELS THIS SIDE OF PARADISE THE BEAUTIFUL AND DAMNED THE GREAT GATSBY TENDER IS THE NIGHT THE LOVE OF THE LAST TYCOON THE SHORT STORY COLLECTIONS FLAPPERS AND PHILOSOPHERS TALES FROM THE JAZZ AGE ALL THE SAD YOUNG MEN TAPS AT REVEILLE THE PAT HOBBY STORIES MISCELLANEOUS STORIES THE PLAYS AND SCREENPLAYS THE POETRY THE NON-FICTION THE LETTERS
