This book was released on 2019-11-07 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Six Dynasties Period (220-589 CE) is one of the most complex in Chinese history. Written by leading scholars from across the globe, the essays in this volume cover nearly every aspect of the period, including politics, foreign relations, warfare, agriculture, gender, art, philosophy, material culture, local society, and music. While acknowledging the era's political chaos, these essays indicate that this was a transformative period when Chinese culture was significantly changed and enriched by foreign peoples and ideas. It was also a time when history and literature became recognized as independent subjects and religion was transformed by the domestication of Buddhism and the formation of organized Daoism. Many of the trends that shaped the rest of imperial China's history have their origins in this era, such as the commercial vibrancy of southern China, the separation of history and literature from classical studies, and the growing importance of women in politics and religion.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discover the complexity of China’s past with this multi-faceted portrayal of the storied nation from a leading expert in the field The newly revised Second Edition of A History of China delivers a comprehensive treatment of the political, economic, social, and cultural history of China that covers all major events and trends that have shaped the country over the centuries. The book is written in a clear and uncomplicated style, sure to be of assistance to undergraduate students with little prior background knowledge in the subject matter. The text examines Chinese history through a global lens to better understand how foreign influences affected domestic policies and practices. It includes discussions of the roles played by non-Chinese ethnic groups in China, like the Tibetans and Uyghurs, and the Mongol and Manchu rulers who held power in China for several centuries. The distinguished author takes pains to incorporate the perspectives and narratives of people traditionally left out of Chinese history, including women, peasants, merchants, and artisans. Readers will also enjoy the inclusion of: A thorough introduction to early and ancient Chinese history, including classical China, the first Chinese empires, and religious and political responses to the period between 220 and 581 CE An exploration of the restoration of Empire under Sui and Tang, as well as post-Tang society and Glorious Song A discussion of China and the Mongol world, including Mongol rule in China and the isolationism and involvement on the global stage of the Ming dynasty A treatment of China in global history, including the Qing era, the Republican period, and the Communist era Perfect for undergraduate students of courses on Chinese history and Central Asian History, the Second Edition of A History of China will also earn a place in the libraries of students studying global history and related classes in history departments and departments of Asian studies. The Blackwell History of the World Series The goal of this ambitious series is to provide an accessible source of knowledge about the entire human past, for every curious person in every part of the world. It will comprise some two dozen volumes, of which some provide synoptic views of the history of particular regions while others consider the world as a whole during a particular period of time. The volumes are narrative in form, giving balanced attention to social and cultural history (in the broadest sense) as well as to institutional development and political change. Each provides a systematic account of a very large subject, but they are also both imaginative and interpretative. The Series is intended to be accessible to the widest possible readership, and the accessibility of its volumes is matched by the style of presentation and production.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the Chinese original of the popular version of Chinese History Made Easy (volume 2: The Modern Time) by Hanson Chan .The author stresses that Chinese history is easy, and that it is easy to learn, easy to understand, and easy to remember. In his two books on China, the author shows the readers a simple way of how easy it can be. For an overall outline, he has divided the entire five thousand years of history of China into three sections. Consecutively, they are: (1) The Ancient Period, (2) The Imperial Ages, and (3) The Modern Times. In which the Ancient Period deals with the section of its myths and origins, and its ancestors and rulers before the Qin Dynasty was formed in 221 BC. The Imperial Ages tells the section began with the First Emperor of China who was enthroned in 221 BC during the Qin Dynasty until the Last Emperor who abdicated under the Qing Dynasty in 1912. As for the section of the Modern Times, the author discusses the events that had happened after the Revolution in 1911 till the days of the present. In his easy-to-follow presentation, the author has purposely introduced three “conceptual imageries” for readers to relate to the historical progress of the entire span in Chinese history. Each has its own feature for the readers to recall its characteristic. One for each section, they are great helps to reinforce one's memory. Throughout the pages of these two volumes, he has selected and focused systematically on important events and major figures for discussion according to their similarities and differences. In addition, he uses simple arithmetic to recall historical dates, and concentrates on lessons of successes and failures that have shaped the continuity of Chinese culture as a whole. It is the written style and simplicity of the book that has attracted numerous readers of the young in China ever since its first publication in 2008.
