Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The interdisciplinary approaches presented here investigate food in India and Sri Lanka for its wide ranging cultural meaning and uses. The authors examine food in religious and literary contexts, where saints, ritualists, poets, and the divine often provide grounds for a practically inexhaustible hermeneutics. The Eternal Food focuses on reflexive cultural expressions and personal experiences that food elicits in the region. Concerned with food as an "essence" and as an essential experience, the authors give special attention to Hindu saints for whom food, firmly grounded in moral ideals and practice, represents a cosmic divine principle at one level, and a most immediate and intimate material reality at another. In the cultural diversity of India, the authors work with several conceptual models and meanings of food. They demonstrate how it reflects common social understandings about social caste, the cure and prevention of ailments, its ability to alter moods and motivations, or affect innate personal dispositions, personal spiritual pursuits and attainments. In its sweep and depth, food presents a powerful cultural lens for seeing how practical, ritual, and spiritual spheres of life conjoin.

Book excerpt: In the Reformed tradition, the Lord's Supper is a sacrament that draws on a rich and deep tradition in its theology and practice. In this new volume in the Columbia Series in Reformed Theology, John Riggs provides a comprehensive overview of the most important Reformed theologians and confessions on the sacrament of the Lord's Supper. Riggs identifies the theology of true mystical union with Christ in the Supper as both a theological legacy the Reformed tradition inherited and a theological achievement that it refined. Ideal for studies in Reformed and liturgical theology, this is an important resource for investigating the eucharistic theology of the Reformed tradition.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "BIBLICAL CREATION TRUTH" differs from the traditional and recent controversial theories of creationism. Contrary to the prevailing confusing theories of creation, the "heavens and earth" of Genesis 1:1 were perfect (Deuteronomy 32:4) and beautiful (Ecclesiastes 3:11). Genesis 1:1, in just one short blessed sentence, covers within its grasp the 'totality of a perfect creation'. This fact is corroborated by Proverbs 8:22-31 narrating the primeval creation. In no way, Proverbs 8:27-31 are 'parallel' with Genesis1:3-31 but actually complement Genesis 1:1 with additional details. Next, Proverbs 8:27- 31 does not mention chaos on the primeval earth thereby proving that the chaos of Genesis 1:2 was of later occurrence. Moreover, Proverbs 8:26c -31 prove that the original earth was teemed with life, including pre-adamic 'sons of men' in whom Wisdom delighted. This could not be the case after Adam's fall. Undoubtedly, a faulty interpretation of Genesis 1:1-31 and Exodus 20:11 lies behind the 'battle for a true view of the beginning'. If these Scriptures, along with Proverbs 8:22-31, were objectively interpreted, taking into account Genesis 2:4a relating to beginnings, it would be clear that there were two beginnings of God's creative works; one, in the eternity past (2 Peter 3:5) and the other, in the realm of time (2 Peter 3:7), leaving no room for any debate relating to the origins or the age of the universe. It's time we admit our failure to consider all the Scriptures relating to creation and interpret the biblical creation accounts appropriately! And next, with faith, come to grips with the actual revealed Biblical Creation Truth, for 'His Name's sake'; even as we look forward to the creation of new heavens and earth in the eternity future (2 Peter 3:13)!
