Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Greg Gutfeld, the acclaimed host of the popular, nightly Fox News show Red Eye, has packed this book full of his most aggressive (and funny) diatribes -- each chapter exploring Unspeakable Truths that cut right to the core and go well beyond just politics. Greg deconstructs pop culture, media, kids, disease, race, food, sex, celebrity, current events, and nearly every other aspect of life, with Truths including but not limited to: "if you're over 25 and still use party as a verb, then you're beyond redemption," "the media wanted bird flu to kill thousands," "attractive people don't write for a living," "death row inmates make the best husbands," and "the urge to punch Zach Braff in the face is completely natural." With an irreverent voice, incredible wit, and a firm take on just about everything, this is a manual for how to think about stuff, by a guy who has thought about precisely that same stuff. And, even if you disagree with Greg, this book will make you laugh--guaranteed.* *Not guaranteed

Book excerpt: From the irreverent star of Fox News’s Red Eye and The Five, hilarious observations on the manufactured outrage of an oversensitive, wussified culture. Greg Gutfeld hates artificial tolerance. At the root of every single major political conflict is the annoying coddling Americans must endure of these harebrained liberal hypocrisies. In fact, most of the time liberals uses the mantle of tolerance as a guise for their pathetic intolerance. And what we really need is smart intolerance, or as Gutfeld reminds us, what we used to call common sense. The Joy of Hate tackles this conundrum head on--replacing the idiocy of open-mindness with a shrewd judgmentalism that rejects stupid ideas, notions, and people. With countless examples grabbed from the headlines, Gutfeld provides readers with the enormous tally of what pisses us all off. For example: - The double standard: You can make fun of Christians, but God forbid Muslims. It's okay to call a woman any name imaginable, as long as she's a Republican. And no problem if you're a bigot, as long as you're politically correct about it. - The demonizing of the Tea Party and romanticizing of the Occupy Wall Streeters. - The media who are always offended (see MSNBC lineup) - How critics of Obamacare or illegal immigration are somehow immediately labeled racists. - The endless debate over the Ground Zero Mosque (which Gutfeld planned to open a Muslim gay bar next to). - As well as pretentious music criticism, slow-moving ceiling fans, and snotty restaurant hostesses. Funny and sarcastic to the point of being mean (but in a nice way), The Joy of Hate points out the true jerks in this society and tells them all off.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1948, at the dawn of his country's independence, Mohandas Gandhi, father of the Indian independence movement and a beloved prophet of nonviolence, was assassinated by Hindu nationalists. In riveting detail, author James W. Douglass shows as he previously did with the story of JFK how police and security forces were complicit in the assassination and how in killing one man, they hoped to destroy his vision of peace, nonviolence, and reconciliation. Gandhi had long anticipated and prepared for this fate. In reviewing the little-known story of his early "experiments in truth" in South Africa the laboratory for Gandhi's philosophy of satyagraha, or truth force Douglass shows how early he confronted and overcame the fear of death. And, as with his account of JFK's death, he shows why this story matters: what we can learn from Gandhi's truth in the struggle for peace and reconciliation today.

Book excerpt: As we look to the Bible for all the answers we need, I discovered that there are two distinct laws, which has caused confusion to almost the whole world, throughout Christendom. These two laws are (1) the Holy Law of God and (2) the Ceremonial laws of Moses. Scriptures revealed that God gave Moses the instruction to write the Ceremonial laws that were in a book. But God wrote his Holy Law, the Ten Commandments, with his fingers on two tables of stones. Then God's Law was place inside the Ark of the Covenant. Moses' laws were on the outside, of the Ark of the Covenant, also within the Most Holy Place of the tabernacle on earth. This earthly tabernacle was a replica of the Heavenly Sanctuary. Moses laws were contained in the hand-writings of ordinances; as obtained in commandments, which consists of sabbath days, feasts days, holy days, and new moon. None of which had anything to do with the nature of God's Holy Law, that also contains God's holy Sabbath-Day, which was designed for us in the atmosphere of worship at creation. It's these ceremonial laws of Moses that did not make anything perfect. These are the same laws, which were nailed to the cross, and were abolished by Christ death on the cross. They were taken out of the way, through the recompense, of the consequence of sin. Eph. 2:15; Heb. 7:19; Col. 2:14,16; Lev. 1:1-3; Deut. 31:24-26. Not only is the Holy Law of God eternal, holy, perfect, just, and good, it will stand fast forever and ever. It is called the Royal Law. Christ did not destroy it, but provided it with magnification, of its divine purpose. God's Law will continue to give the knowledge of sin, because without it there can be no grace. Therefore, the lingering presence of sin will always be the result of transgressing God's Holy Law. James 2:8; Rom. 3:20; 7:7; Matt 5:7; Heb. 9:4; Psalms 19:7; 111:7,8. And this is the Gospel Truth of the Bible.

Book excerpt: The patristic doctrine of Scripture is an understudied topic. Recent scholars, however, have shown considerable interest in patristic exegetical strategies and methods—from rhetoric and typology, to theory and method; far less attention, though, has been paid to the early Christian understanding of the nature of Scripture itself. This volume explores the patristic vision of the Bible—the understanding of Scripture as the word of life and salvation, the theological, liturgical, and ascetical practice of reading—and is anchored by keynote essays from Fr. John McGuckin, Paul Blowers, and Michael Legaspi. The purpose is to reopen a consideration of the doctrine of Scripture for contemporary theology, rooted in the tradition of the Church Fathers (Greek, Latin, and Oriental), an endeavor inspired by the theological vision of the twentieth century’s foremost Orthodox Christian theologian, Fr. Georges Florovsky. Our interest is not in mere description of historical uses of Scripture or interpretive methods, but rather in the very nature of Scripture itself and its place within the whole economy of creation, revelation, and salvation.
