Book excerpt: Ambiguity in the sense of two or more possible meanings is considered to be a distinctive feature of modern art and literature. It characterizes the "open artwork" (Eco) and is generated by "disruptive tactics" (Wellershoff) and strategies to engender uncertainty. While ambiguity is seen as a "paradigm of modernity" (Bode), there is skepticism regarding its use in the pre-modern era. Older studies were dominated by the conviction that there was a lack of ambiguity in pre-modernity because, according to the rules of the "old rhetoric", ambiguity was seen as an avoidable error (vitium) and a violation of the dictate of clarity (perspicuitas). The aim of the volume is to re-examine the putative "absence of ambiguity" in the pre-modern era. Is it not possible to find clear examples of deliberately employed (intended) ambiguity in antiquity? Are the oracles and riddles, the Palinode of Stesichoros and Socrates (Phaedrus), the dissoi logoi of rhetoric, the ambiguities of the tragedies all exceptions or do they not indicate a distinct interest in the artistic use of ambiguity? The presentations of the conference, which will include scholars from various philologies, will combine a recourse to theoretical concepts of intended ambiguity with exemplary analyses from the field of pre-modern art and literature.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What instinctive tendencies etched into our subconscious minds drive us to behave in ways that cause us pain and suffering? How can we transcend those tendencies? Why do educated women repeatedly revert to outdated patterns of relating to men—even as ancient patriarchal systems (and the fairy tales perpetuating them) are clearly crumbling? Through the author’s ongoing quest to delve into wide-ranging explorations of body, mind, and spirit—discovering along the way that many theories, practices, and neuroscience itself have been evolving in fascinating ways, these concepts and their constant interplay offer the clues that ultimately answer these questions. Carefully researched, Happily Ever After... Right Now uniquely combines spiritual, scientific, and practical information for charting a new course towards confidence, empowerment, self-love, and joy. Written with spirit and spunk Luann Robinson Hull interweaves her personal stories while providing a three-part-framework of education, awareness, and transformation for how to live a happy life today, not someday in the future. Happily Ever After ... Right Now guides us to explore our thoughts and behaviors with soulful inquiries, meditations, and exploratory exercises in each chapter, and reveals the source of relationship challenges by showing step-by-step how to unravel the patterns, habits, and cycles that have kept us from living our best life, whether or not we are in a committed relationship. Now ask yourself, are you ready to put fairy tales behind you and unleash your potential to thrive across all areas of your life as the person you have always desired to be? Then let’s get started! Editorial Review "This book of Luann Robinson Hull's is a stunning hit between the eyes. She has complete command of her subject matter, expertly navigating us through waters we probably didn't even know were treacherous. Not once does she lose sight of her destiny using feminine power and finesse to enlighten us of this mysterious abyss called "relationship." Though her target audience may appear to be women, Happily Ever After...Right Now provided me with insight and clarity into something I gave up trying to comprehend long ago. She reminded me not only of what I seek in a partner but helped me set off on the journey of reclaiming the man I have always wanted to be." —Branden Blinn, The Branden Blinn Media Group

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We all love stories--whether printed, passed down orally from generation to generation, or made into films. We love stories whether they are fictional, true, mythical, or legendary. Stories are part of our human history, and they help us understand being human. But there is one story that underpins all other stories--the story of why we exist. All great human stories must interact with this story. His Story explores this fundamental story by retelling the story of the Bible. His Story tells the Biblical story of how God has opened up a doorway into our universe and how this impacts the metanarrative of all of our lives. If you want to read the overarching story of the Bible in one short book, then His Story is for you. If you want to know the backstory of your life, His Story is for you. His Story is simply written, but doesn't oversimplify. It is a book for people who might call themselves Christians, but also for all those who are curious about the ultimate story. His Story--the story of why we are here.

In Gods and Goddesses in Love, Agapi Stassinopoulos tells the stories of the primary goddesses and gods, and how their myths can provide insight into your own romantic relationships. Included are two fun and fascinating quizzes: one for women to determine their own dominant personality type and which goddess she most embodies; and a second that will help every woman understand more about the "god" she is involved with, or searching for. In the book, the seven archetypal goddesses are portrayed in modern terms, highlighting not only each goddess's unique strengths but also the pitfalls or stumbling blocks she is likely to encounter in a relationship with her partner. Also included are interviews with real couples who reveal how they overcame obstacles to find true love. For anyone who desires the self-knowledge and empowerment to find their ideal other, Gods and Goddesses in Love is an uplifting, instructive, and enlightening guide for achieving greater fulfillment in love.

Filled with practical exercises, meditations to channel your angels' love, pages to record their loving messages and touching real-life stories about the healing power of love, this book will soothe your soul and help you to trust the goodness in others again. Amanda believes that if you open your heart to the angels their love is everlasting, and you will never be lonely again.
